Nordweld at API Storage Tank Conference 2026: tank construction efficiency in focus

The 2026 API Storage Tank Conference & Expo brought together storage tank professionals in Austin Texas on October 19-22. The event has been held since 1995 and is focused specifically on aboveground storage tank professionals including engineers operators inspectors asset integrity specialists executives and technical leaders.

Nordweld was represented in Austin by founder Niklas Nordin and Andrei Mihart Nordin Technical Sales Representative. During the event they met professionals from across the industry and exchanged experience around current storage tank projects construction methods and the challenges influencing future investments.

For Nordweld one of the most relevant topics in Austin was tank construction efficiency – particularly the relationship between material preparation and the way the complete tank-building process is organized.

API Storage Tank Conference 2026: key topics for the storage tank industry

The 2026 API Storage Tank Conference program covered a broad range of issues affecting aboveground storage tanks today including safety inspection and integrity regulatory requirements corrosion maintenance robotics and new technologies.

One session was particularly closely aligned with Nordweld’s area of expertise: Improved Tank Construction Efficiency Using High Strength Stainless Steel Coil.

For Nordweld this topic connects directly with the practical question of how material preparation can be integrated into the wider storage tank construction process.

How Nordweld approaches tank construction efficiency

Tank construction efficiency depends on more than the speed of a single operation.

Material still needs to be prepared formed positioned lifted and welded. The way these stages are organized influences the overall construction process. This is where the Nordweld Advanced System takes a process-based approach.

The system can work with both steel coil and flat sheets. Material can be fed directly from coil or processed from flat sheets while the tank is rotated during construction and mechanized welding is performed from a centralized working position. Work is carried out at ground level. For stainless steel tank construction this creates the possibility of combining material preparation forming lifting rotation and welding within one coordinated system configuration.

The objective is not simply to automate one task. It is to make the complete tank-building process more controlled repeatable and efficient.

Planning your next tank project?

Selecting the right system configuration depends on the tank dimensions material type shell thickness construction method and the specific requirements of your project.

Whether your project involves using coiled material flat plates or a combination of both the Nordweld team can help you determine the configuration best suited to your actual construction process.
