Construction of 3 tanks for the biogas industry in Italy | Standard System | Nordweld

In the Emilia-Romagna Region Italy the Standard System delivered by Nordweld was used by the client for the construction of three steel tanks for the biogas industry. The project involved biodigesters designed to store digestate including manure and other organic waste. The key objective of the project was to accelerate the tank erection process improve welding conditions and reduce interference with other works carried out in parallel on site.

Application of the Standard System in steel tank construction

The project used the Nordweld Standard System a high-efficiency system for steel tank construction applied in projects where efficient assembly organization stable welding conditions and smooth execution for large diameters are essential. In this case rotating and positioning equipment was used including rotating fixtures turntables and a mobile welding station.

The system enables the entire tank to rotate during the construction process which makes it possible to organize the successive erection stages more efficiently and carry out the work from one location. The solution also supports element positioning during assembly improves access to the working area and facilitates in-place circumferential welding.

An important advantage of the System is that key operations can be performed at ground level. This approach improves ergonomics increases safety and makes it easier to control the erection process. The system also helps retain the proper tank geometry during the successive stages of construction.

Challenges in tank construction for the biogas industry

Shorter construction time and more efficient site logistics

One of the main requirements of the project was to shorten the construction time while maintaining execution quality. With parallel works being carried out on site it was also important to reduce interference with other trades and improve the organization of assembly logistics. The applied equipment helped structure the successive stages of work and reduce disruptions on site.

Stable welding conditions and improved weld quality

For large cylindrical sections weld quality depends on stable working conditions and precise positioning of the elements. The applied system enabled stable rotating welding which contributed to improved weld quality and better control over circumferential weld execution.

In this project the system also helped reduce alignment difficulties and improved safety and ergonomics during the welding of large-diameter cylindrical sections.

The effect of using the tank building system

The applied equipment made it possible to shorten construction time reduce interference with other works on site and improve the organization of the entire tank erection process. Thanks to stable rotating welding conditions it was also possible to improve weld quality and facilitate work on large diameters.

As a result the tank erection process became more organized safer and better suited to the conditions of an active construction site. The Standard System helped combine the requirements of project pace execution quality and efficient work organization.
